In everything we do, we aim to deter global conflict.

When deterrence is not enough, we are committed to support those who protect our country and allies.

The threats our warfighters face while completing their missions continue to evolve in complexity, scale and severity. They need the right tools to complete their missions and come home safely.

Our commitment to the warfighter has driven us to develop the AGM-158 eXtreme Range (XR) cruise missile.

The XR Difference   ___

?

With over 20 years of experience in the development and production of combat-proven cruise missiles, Lockheed Martin has developed the AGM-158 XR concept to offer significantly increased standoff attack range that can be rapidly produced and delivered to the U.S. military.

Stemming from the fully-qualified JASSM-ER weapon system and the evolutionary LRASM weapon system, XR offers a low-risk solution at a fraction of the cost of a new start program.

By leveraging the mature JASSM and LRASM production line, established supply chain, mission planning and software infrastructure, and by implementing a few structural changes, XR can significantly reduce development and production time.

The XR solution provides the warfighter a 1,000lb warhead stealth missile capability with an extreme standoff range in mass quantities, while maintaining compatibility with the same platforms that JASSM and LRASM have today, including the F/A-18 and the soon to be added F-35.

Lockheed Martin continues to incorporate process automation within key steps of production to increase throughput, ensure quality control and save on costs.

As a part of the process automation, we are digitally simulating the manufacturing environment to increase downstream efficiency to automatically capture design specifications and content for inspection planning to integrate those product enhancements into the next iterations much more quickly.

In 2022, Lockheed Martin opened a new 225,000-square-foot production facility with dynamic factory model forecasting, a fully-robotic paint line and more automated processes. Factories like these will empower our talented workforce to not only produce these systems more quickly, but also allow them to insert new ideas – like XR – into the evolution process.

What’s Next for AGM-158   ___

Accelerating the delivery of advanced capabilities to the warfighter is one of Lockheed Martin’s highest priorities and our Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) is key to getting us there.

With an MBE, Lockheed Martin is providing customers with an integrated digital environment that spans the entire life cycle of a program, including informing upgradeable product improvements and spirals to existing programs – such as JASSM and LRASM – to further their lifespan.

XR lays the groundwork for a future modular design. The AGM-158 family of systems – JASSM and LRASM – drives continuous improvement to capacity, capability and commonality across missile variants.

By driving continuous improvement across systems with variants like XR, Lockheed Martin has developed and tested a handful of spiral upgrades for the AGM-158 family of systems in less time than a typical new-start program.

XR is one more way Lockheed Martin remains committed to supporting the mission, ensuring those who serve always stay ahead of ready. ?
